Praying hands – Memorial Church of Heroes, Vác

The concept for the new Reformed church in Vác evolved along ten main principles. The form of the church is an abstraction of two hands closing together in prayer. The architects, Zsuzsanna Mohai and Ákos Boczkó, searched for a form with an eternal meaning. They wanted to develop a central sacred space with pure, simple architecture. Disturbing noise was eliminated by the location of the windows which create steady, indirect lighting. Along the idea of a "multifunctional church", the architects added two rooms to the main building for children and teens. Besides the central volume, the concept contains a small campanile and a cemetery for urns in a small closed courtyard. There is also a plaque for military heroes placed in a public Memorial Park flanked with earth waves.
