Another reason for chosing this theme was to provide a solution for the actual difficulties in photography in Hungary. Since its appearance it had been always in the middle of the human interests. Exhibitions, collections of photography are always beating records of the number of visitors. However, the conditions of the locations are not provided, even it can be staged at in undeserved place. In addition, not only from the professionals’ side but the amateurs’ side as well, there is a big interests of the methodology of the cameras or the process, and of course the worldfamous works from Robert Capa, Andre Kertész or Lucien Hervé...
As for the solution, I designed a photography museum and studios for practicing it, in a neighbourhood of the Art University in Budapest, therefore students can use that as well. This is also an awarness for making changes at that park of the college, because it is used to be an important relaxation area and meeting point for the public, altough now is totally abandoned.
The main point of the concept was to show the connection between photography and architecture. The two genres share common the basic element: the light. I used the importance and difference of the light for emphasizing the materiality, bringing up emotions, making spatial experiences and all of these are for the purpose of encouraging the visitors for taking pictures.
In term of the form, I designed a black box and a light box during taking the advantages and using different types of light. The black box is underground having small fanlights for entering the natural light. This is the museum part showing the analog and digital technology with permanent and temporary exhibition areas including hungarian famous photographers’ art.
The light box is above the ground for the studios with exciting but clean interior structural elements. It needs diffuse light, therefore I created a double skin layers building with matt frosted glass inside and neutral-effect polycarbonate outside. The third building part was already on the site, whaich was use to be a calvary. I chose this as the entrance of the complexum by getting down through spiral stairs.
