Building Camp by MOME

For the past decade, the summer building camp has been a defining event of architecture training at MOME Institute of Architecture. Launched by Tamás Nagy, the program has since become a tradition under the guidance of Csaba Kovács and Áron Vass-Eysen as an initiation ceremony for first year students.

Taking place in a new location each year, the summer building camp realizes a student design created in the spring semester, which is jointly chosen by the first year students and their lecturers. In 2017, the project called KÚT for Erdőbénye (Well) was originally designed by Szilárd Suba-Faluvégi and developed together with the whole class. The realized structure can accommodate small group of friends and it creates a symbolic and tactile connection with the brook underneath by the well, which is placed into the structure. The goal was to design an architectural work, which visually fits into the landscape, and formally based on the traditions of the coopers, so it can become an integral part of the local culture of the forest.
