Breathing with the forest: resting place in the woods
MOME Architecture summer camp has been organised since 2006 by the Institute of Architecture. This summer activity of the first-year students aims to realize in 1:1 one of their concepts. The two weeks long camp has different location year by year. According to the venue the first-year students have to face several challenges each year. The summer camp and also the concepts making period is implemented into the academic education, so students can work on their ideas during the second part of the spring semester.
In 2015 the summer camp was realized near Bakonybél (Western- Hungary, Bakony-hills), where the first-year student of the BA education designed a community resting place in the woods. Based on the class decision Ráchel Szabó’s idea have been picked for construction, but the whole class and the tutors Csaba Kovács and Áron Vass-Eysen worked together intensively.
Ráchel's concept breathes with the forest and focuses on the natural environment. The structure itself gives the form of construction. It refers to a traditional and familiar roof solution, but transfers it on a playful way. The wooden columns imitate the slopes of the trees and this lends authenticity to the structure.
The concept based on the ruins which were already the part of the forest’s landscape. Rákhel’s design provides protection against rain, seats for the hikers and also climbing opportunity for the kids. The construction has the impression of monumentality but blends into the forest completely.
