Animation Workshop and Incubator House
The animation school of Illyés Academy of Arts started in 2009, and since then Budaörs became a center for Hungarian animation-art education with the need of a proper building that can host the broadened variety of activities of the institution. The main functions include a well-equipped, modern workshop, an incubator house that focuses specifically on animation movie projects, and a public space that can serve as a home to the countless creative artistic courses and international cultural events. Within the confines of my thesis I designed a building that besides fitting all the above-mentioned requirements, stimulates the creative thinking inevitable for newly-forming animation projects, and in the same time offers a calm and productive environment where the artist can efficiently put their notion into effect.
The open-to-the-public spaces can be found in the street side of the building, such as a creative merchandise shop, an educational workshop area and a movie hall. The back part of the house is more intimate, this is where the students and the employees of the institution spend most of their time. The area has separate spaces for each step of the animation process, from thinking on the storyboard to the finished production.
During the design process I always kept in mind, to design a sustainable and comfortable building in every aspect. I shaped the roof to create the appropriate number of windows, that helps to have good ventilation and natural lighting in the inside.
I honestly hope that the final plan of the Animation Workshop and Incubator House can serve as a solid base for the future of the Hungarian animation community.
